Clashes on Lebanese-Syrian Border Prompt Military Intervention

Tensions escalated on the Lebanese-Syrian border in the Hermel area following violent clashes between Syrian troops and Hezbollah-affiliated fighters, Arab News reported. The conflict began when the Lebanese Army reported the killing of three Syrian soldiers, allegedly abducted by a Hezbollah-linked group near the Seta dam.

The Lebanese Army implemented exceptional security measures after the incident, which stemmed from a dispute among smugglers in a geographically intertwined area. Lebanese authorities confirmed that the bodies of the soldiers were transferred to Syria.

Subsequent shelling and gunfire erupted between Lebanese and Syrian forces, resulting in casualties on both sides, including a Lebanese girl and several Syrian soldiers. The Lebanese Armed Forces are in communication with their Syrian counterparts to maintain stability in the region.

Hezbollah denied any involvement in the clashes, while the Syrian Defense Ministry vowed to respond to any border violations. Additionally, an Israeli airstrike in the Nabatieh district targeted Hezbollah members, resulting in one death and three injuries. The new Lebanese Army chief emphasized the importance of implementing UN Resolution 1701 for internal security.
