Vatican Expresses Solidarity with Muslims During Ramadan

The Vatican has expressed solidarity with Muslims observing Ramadan, highlighting the parallel between this Islamic holy month and the Christian season of Lent, CNA reported. In a message from the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, the Vatican emphasized the importance of dialogue and friendship between the two faiths.
It noted that both Ramadan and Lent involve fasting, prayer, and reflection. “This year, Ramadan largely coincides with Lent, offering a unique opportunity for Christians and Muslims to walk side by side in a common process of purification,” the dicastery remarked.

Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad, the new prefect of the dicastery, emphasized the importance of dialogue between the two faiths. He stated, “Our world is thirsting for fraternity and genuine dialogue.” The Vatican’s message encourages both communities to engage in mutual respect and understanding, promoting peace amidst historical tensions.
Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad, the new prefect of the dicastery, signed the message, emphasizing that faith should inspire unity and respect among all people. He stated, “Our trust in God is a treasure that unites us, far beyond our differences.” The Vatican’s call for mutual respect and the rejection of violence and discrimination reflects a commitment to fostering peace and understanding in a divided world.
