Texas Governor Greg Abbott Opposes Proposed Islamic Community Project

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has firmly stated that “Sharia law is not allowed in Texas” in response to the proposed development of a new Islamic-themed town, “EPIC City,” near Josephine, approximately 40 minutes from Dallas, Newsweek.com reported.

The project, spearheaded by the East Plano Islamic Center, aims to develop a 402-acre site that will include over 1,000 homes, a mosque, a faith-based school, retail shops, and a community college.

Abbott’s comments follow skepticism surrounding the project, which has been labeled by some as a potential “Sharia City.” He shared a post on X from conservative commentator Amy Mek, emphasizing that such cities and “no-go zones” are not permissible in Texas.

Community Capital Partners, managing the project, assured compliance with the Fair Housing Act and a commitment to creating an inclusive community. The proposals for EPIC City are still under development, and it remains uncertain how Abbott’s opposition may impact the plans.
