Taliban Resumes House-to-House Searches in Kabul

The Taliban have resumed house-to-house searches in parts of Kabul, raising alarm among residents, Amu TV reported. The searches began on Saturday morning in the Khair Khana neighborhood and may extend to other areas of the capital. Sources indicate that the Taliban have not provided an official reason for the renewed inspections, which have intensified fear and distrust among the populace.
These searches occur amid reported internal divisions within the Taliban and a series of security incidents throughout Afghanistan. Human rights organizations have previously expressed concerns over the group’s increasing restrictions on civil liberties since regaining power in August 2021.
In February 2022, the Taliban conducted extensive house searches in Kabul, claiming they were targeting criminal activity. However, many Western diplomats and rights groups argued that these operations disproportionately affected ordinary citizens. The latest inspections have reignited worries about the Taliban’s governance and security methods as Afghans face a more repressive environment under their rule.
