Israel’s offensives destroy nearly 80% of Gaza mosques, 3 churches

The spokesperson for Gaza’s Ministry of Endowments reported that Israeli forces have destroyed 79% of the mosques in the Gaza Strip and completely demolished three churches, Anadolu Agency reported. Ikrami Al-Mudallal stated that 255 clerics and imams have been killed, with 26 others detained. He condemned the targeting of places of worship as a violation of international law and human rights.

Since the onset of Israel’s military offensive on October 7, 2023, numerous historic sites have been reduced to rubble. Other affected sites include Sayed al-Hashim Mosque and Saint Porphyrius Church, which is the oldest church in Gaza.

As of January 19, a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel has been in effect, but the conflict has resulted in over 47,400 Palestinian deaths, predominantly among women and children. The humanitarian crisis continues to escalate, drawing international attention and condemnation.
