ISIS claims killing of Chinese national in Afghanistan
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the killing of a Chinese national in Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province, according to a post on its Telegram channel late Wednesday, news outlets reported.
Local police had confirmed the murder earlier that day, stating a preliminary investigation was underway but did not initially identify the perpetrators. ISIS stated it targeted a vehicle carrying the Chinese citizen, resulting in his death and damage to the vehicle.
China’s foreign ministry expressed shock over the attack, urging Afghan authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and punish those responsible.
China, which has sought closer trade and investment ties with Afghanistan, was the first country to appoint an ambassador to the Taliban-led government.
