UNICEF Senior Official Sounds Alarm Over Ongoing Crisis of Children in Gaza
The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains dire, with UNICEF reporting devastating statistics, Reliefweb.com reported yesterday. In a recent airstrike on Nuseirat camp, 33 individuals were killed, including at least eight children, adding to the grim toll of over 160 children who have died in Gaza since early November—an average of four fatalities per day.
Over the past 14 months, more than 14,500 children have reportedly lost their lives in the ongoing conflict. Currently, nearly all of the 1.1 million children in Gaza urgently need protection and mental health support. The region faces severe humanitarian challenges, with 1.9 million people displaced, including hundreds of thousands of children.
Basic necessities such as food, clean water, and medical supplies are critically lacking, and winter conditions are worsening the suffering. UNICEF calls for immediate action to protect children, uphold their rights, and ensure compliance with international humanitarian law amidst the ongoing violence.
