Canada’s first halal food bank opens in Ontario
The city of London, Ontario, has inaugurated Canada’s first halal food bank to support the local Muslim community and other individuals in need.
Led by Amina Saleem, the initiative operates under the Canadian Food Care Association and has served approximately 260 people monthly, with demand steadily rising.
The bank collaborates with local food companies, the Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario, and London Food Bank, relying on donations to provide halal meat and other essentials.
Open to everyone, regardless of faith, it plans to expand to a larger facility next month.
With Muslims comprising 5% of Canada’s population, the demand for halal food has grown significantly, reflecting the country’s commitment to inclusivity and social welfare.
