Microsoft Teams Launches Real-Time Speech Translation AI
Microsoft announced on Friday, November 22, a groundbreaking AI feature for Teams that will enable real-time speech translation in nine languages, Semafor.com reported.
This innovative tool allows users to converse in languages they do not speak, utilizing the speaker’s own voice for a more natural communication experience.
The preview of this feature is set to roll out early next year, targeting businesses that are expanding globally and engaging in remote work. While written translation technologies have existed for years, this marks a significant advancement in live speech-to-speech translation, tapping into the $18 billion global interpretation market.
Additionally, Microsoft plans to enhance Teams with features that will allow presentations to be translated into 40 languages and facilitate interactions with chatbots simulating human resources and IT personnel. This initiative may pose challenges for approximately 640,000 professional translators worldwide, as AI continues to reshape the industry.
