18 Dead in Bus Crash into Indus River in Pakistan
A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday when a bus carrying approximately two dozen wedding guests plunged into the Indus River in northern Pakistan, resulting in at least 18 fatalities, CBS17 reported yesterday.
The incident took place in the Gilgit Baltistan region while the bus was en route to Chakwal in Punjab province, according to government spokesman Faizullah Faraq.
So far, only one woman has been rescued and is receiving treatment at a local hospital. Rescuers are set to continue their search for additional missing passengers today. The cause of the crash remains unclear, and authorities have yet to interview the lone survivor. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari expressed condolences and urged swift rescue efforts. Road accidents are frequent in Pakistan, attributed to inadequate infrastructure and lax adherence to traffic regulations.
