India: Traders in Uttarakhand Demand Muslim Families Leave by Year-End
In a controversial move, a traders’ body in Khansar town, Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, India, has resolved that 15 Muslim families must vacate by December 31, The Times Of India reported today.
This decision, made during a meeting of the vyapar mandal following a provocative rally, threatens fines and legal action for non-compliance.
The families, some of whom have lived in the area for decades, are being targeted amid claims of preventing alleged criminal incidents linked to minority community members. Former traders’ body president Virendra Singh, now leading the Maithan Seva Samiti, stated the resolution was passed “unanimously” as a “preventive action.”
