WFP Warns of Famine Threat in Gaza as Winter Approaches

The World Food Program (WFP) has issued a dire warning about the ongoing threat of famine in Gaza as winter approaches, Anadolu Agency revealed yesterday.

The UN agency stated that hunger is rampant, with aid deliveries significantly reduced, forcing the suspension of food parcel distributions in October. Currently, around 100,000 tons of food are waiting at various corridors, enough to feed over a million people for five months, but the closure of crossing points and security issues hinder delivery.

The WFP highlighted the desperate conditions faced by Gazans, who lack adequate shelter, fuel, and essential aid after enduring a year of conflict. The situation is further exacerbated in the occupied West Bank due to Israeli military operations and rising settler violence. Since the escalation of conflict following Hamas’s incursion on October 7, 2023, over 42,000 people have died, mostly women and children, with severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine reported across the region.
