Elon Musk Unveils Tesla Cybercab and Robovan at We, Robot Event

Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced the Cybercab, an autonomous robotaxi expected to launch before 2027 at a price under $30,000, The Guardian reported yesterday.

During the We, Robot event in Burbank, California, Musk showcased 20 Cybercabs and 50 fully autonomous vehicles for attendees to test. The Cybercab will feature no steering wheel or pedals, utilizing inductive charging.

Musk also announced plans to transition Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y vehicles to unsupervised self-driving in California and Texas next year, with hopes to expand globally based on regulatory approval. Additionally, he introduced the Robovan, capable of carrying up to 20 passengers, although pricing and production details remain undisclosed.

Musk emphasized the safety of autonomous vehicles, claiming they could be 10 to 30 times safer than human drivers. He also highlighted advancements in Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, which he predicts could cost around $30,000 at scale.
