Demolition Ordered for Sanjauli Mosque’s Top Floors Amid Controversy

The Shimla Municipal Commissioner Court has mandated the demolition of the top three floors of the Sanjauli Mosque in Himachal Pradesh, granting the mosque’s committee and the Waqf Board a two-month deadline to complete the task, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.

The case is set for review on December 21.

BS Thakur, the Waqf Board’s advocate, confirmed that the mosque committee will bear the demolition costs, with future decisions regarding the remaining structure pending.

The mosque’s construction has ignited protests from Hindu organizations, claiming it was built illegally. Local resident Jagat Paul expressed approval of the court’s ruling, emphasizing local concerns.

The situation escalated when AIMIM Delhi Chief Shoaib Jamai visited the mosque, alleging discriminatory treatment compared to other illegal constructions. However, the Sanjauli Mosque Committee dismissed Jamai’s assertions, calling them disruptive to Shimla’s peaceful environment and detrimental to community relations.
