Clashes Erupt in Islamabad as PTI Protests Continue

On October 4, clashes broke out between police and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters in Islamabad, prompting the deployment of the Pakistan Army for security ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Dawn reported yesterday.

Police fired tear gas to disperse crowds attempting to reach D-Chowk for a planned rally, resulting in at least 30 arrests, including PTI leader Aleema Khanum.

Despite a government ban on gatherings, PTI founder Imran Khan called for a “peaceful protest,” with additional demonstrations scheduled in Lahore. Mobile and internet services were suspended across the twin cities as authorities enforced Section 144 to prohibit public gatherings.

PTI spokespersons condemned the government’s actions as state oppression and vowed to reach D-Chowk despite police blockades. Imran Khan urged supporters to unite for their cause, highlighting the ongoing struggle for freedom.
