Hong Kong’s Muslim Community Seeks Government Support for Halal Accreditation

Hong Kong’s Muslim community is urging the government to fund an accreditation body responsible for certifying halal restaurants, aiming to attract more Middle Eastern tourists, South China Morning Post revealed yesterday.

This request was made during a press conference on September 25, 2024, where lawmakers outlined several initiatives to promote Muslim culture in the city.

In addition to funding for halal certification, proposals included organizing Ramadan food fairs and cultural festivals, as well as increasing the number of prayer rooms in public spaces, such as shopping centers and the airport.

The community believes these measures will enhance Hong Kong’s appeal as a destination for Muslim travelers.
