Bangladesh urges an ‘all stakeholders’ conference’ to address the Rohingya crisis

Bangladesh has called for an “all stakeholders’ conference” to tackle the ongoing Rohingya crisis, stating it has “reached its limits” in accommodating the world’s most persecuted community, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.

Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to the transitional government, made this call during a side event at the 79th UN General Assembly in New York. He highlighted the urgent need for innovative solutions and expressed concern over worsening security in the border region.

Yunus emphasized that delayed repatriation has led to significant losses for both the Rohingyas and Myanmar, warning that the unresolved issues could affect neighboring countries. He pointed out that no Rohingya has returned to Myanmar in the last seven years due to unaddressed root causes, asserting that repatriation is the only viable solution. Yunus also called on the international community to support justice and accountability for crimes committed against the Rohingya, as around 1.2 million have been living in Bangladesh since fleeing a military crackdown in 2017.
