Sudan’s cholera outbreak infected over 11,000 people, claims 348 lives

The Sudanese Health Ministry reported on September 20, that the cholera outbreak has resulted in 348 deaths, with 11,079 cases confirmed across nine states, Anadolu Agency reported today.

The outbreak was officially declared on August 12, following heavy rains and floods since June, which have exacerbated the situation. In addition to cholera, there are concerns about dengue fever in five states, with two fatalities suspected to be linked to this illness.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan has severely hampered the healthcare system, making it increasingly difficult to control the spread of infectious diseases. Health officials continue to urge the public to take precautions as they work to manage the crisis and mitigate further risks to the population.
