Moroccan Forces Thwart Mass Migration Attempts to Ceuta Amid Social Media Calls

Moroccan security forces thwarted attempts by groups seeking to cross into Spain’s Ceuta following social media calls for mass migration, The Associated Press reported yesterday.

Despite efforts, no one successfully breached the border fence, as authorities reported a strong security presence, including arrests of 60 individuals inciting migration attempts online.

Many of those attempting to cross were Moroccans and migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, driven by social and economic pressures. Human rights activist Achraf Mimoun emphasized that families encourage their children to seek better opportunities in Europe, citing past successes. Ceuta and Melilla remain key targets for migrants, with Moroccan authorities reporting over 45,000 thwarted migration attempts from January to September, including over 11,000 in August alone.
