Clashes between Army, RSF in Sudan’s Darfur Leave 20 Civilians Dead

At least 20 civilians were killed in recent clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sennar and Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur State, TRTWorld reported yesterday.

Reports indicate that Sudanese army aircraft bombed the Khamsa Dagaig camp in Zalingei on Saturday evening, resulting in five deaths and three injuries, according to the General Coordination of Camps for the Displaced and Refugees.

In Sennar, the Sudanese Doctors Network reported around 15 fatalities and numerous injuries due to RSF artillery shelling. The indiscriminate attack targeted a camp for displaced persons, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation as victims were rushed to the city’s teaching hospital for treatment.

Additionally, the Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher reported ongoing RSF shelling of the Abu Shouk camp, with four shells hitting the area. Neither the army nor the RSF has commented on these incidents.

Since the conflict erupted in April 2023, following a power struggle between army chief Gen. Abdel Fattah al Burhan and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, nearly 18,800 people have been killed, and millions have been displaced, leading to a severe humanitarian crisis.
