Dengue Cases Surge in Bangladesh: 346 New Infections and 4 Deaths Reported

Bangladesh is grappling with a rising dengue outbreak, reporting 346 new cases and four additional fatalities in the last 24 hours, Xinhua reported yesterday.

This brings the total number of dengue-related deaths this year to 83, as confirmed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health. Since January 1, 2024, the country has recorded 12,841 dengue cases.

The current outbreak is particularly alarming compared to last year, which saw a staggering 321,179 cases and 1,705 deaths, marking it as the deadliest year on record. The monsoon season, spanning from June to September, is known to exacerbate the spread of this mosquito-borne disease, making Bangladesh a high-risk area for dengue fever. Health authorities are urging the public to take preventive measures to combat the surge in infections as the nation faces another challenging monsoon season.
