Bangladesh’s Interim Leader Muhammad Yunus Promises Reforms, Support for Rohingya
In a significant address marking his first major policy speech as the interim leader of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, outlined his administration’s commitment to democratic reforms and humanitarian support, Arab News reported.
The newly appointed chief adviser of Bangladesh emphasized the urgent need for free and fair elections, promising to implement vital reforms across key institutions, including the judiciary, media, and security forces, to restore public trust and accountability.
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus also addressed the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis, vowing to continue support for the over one million refugees residing in Bangladesh. Yunus called for sustained international cooperation to ensure their safe repatriation to Myanmar, emphasizing the importance of dignity and rights for the displaced population.
Furthermore, Yunus committed to investigating the mass killings that occurred during the protests leading to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He expressed a strong desire for justice and national reconciliation, aiming to heal the divisions caused by recent unrest.
