23 Killed in Artillery Attack in El Fasher, North Darfur

At least 23 people were killed and 60 others injured in an artillery attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, Xinhua reported today.

The attack, described as deliberate shelling, targeted civilians amid ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, which have intensified since May 10.

The RSF also struck the Tambasi health center, exacerbating the already critical situation for health facilities in the area. Government officials in El Fasher were unavailable for comment, and the RSF has yet to respond.

Since the conflict began on April 15, 2023, over 16,650 lives have been lost, with approximately 10.7 million people displaced within Sudan and around 2.2 million seeking refuge in neighboring countries, according to recent UN data.
