UN Agencies Urge Boost in HIV Services to End AIDS by 2030
A new report from the Global Alliance for Ending AIDS in Children by 2030 emphasizes the urgent need to enhance HIV services in heavily impacted countries, the UN website reported on Monday.
Launched by WHO, UNICEF, and UNAIDS, the alliance includes 12 African nations and has made strides in reducing infections among children since 2000.
However, despite progress, the report reveals that neither global nor alliance countries are on track to meet HIV-related targets for children and adolescents.
In 2023, approximately 120,000 children were newly infected, with significant treatment gaps persisting.
UNAIDS and WHO directors have stressed the necessity of increasing treatment access, while calling for focused collaboration to support affected families.
