7M Girls Vaccinated Against Cervical Cancer in Nigeria
In a major public health initiative, Nigeria has vaccinated 7 million girls across the country against the human papillomavirus (HPV), a leading cause of cervical cancer, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The two-week vaccination program was a collaborative effort between the Nigerian government, the Gavi Vaccine Alliance, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization.
Nigeria introduced the HPV vaccine into its routine immunization schedule in October 2023, targeting girls aged 9-14.
It should be mentioned that cervical cancer is the second most common cancer affecting women in the country.
