Myanmar in Agony: UN Rights Chief Decries Brutal Atrocities

The UN’s top human rights official, Volker Türk, has condemned the horrific situation in Myanmar, UN News reported.

Türk described the military regime’s use of “war tactics” like beheadings and drone attacks against civilians as “atrocity crimes.”

The crisis stems from the military coup in February 2021. Since then, fighting between the junta and resistance groups has displaced thousands and worsened a humanitarian crisis. The military’s desperation has led to “forced conscription” and indiscriminate attacks.

The UN official highlighted the plight of the Rohingya minority as they face violence, forced displacement, and threats of being forced into the military that once persecuted them
