Beijing’s Crackdown on Islam Now Affecting Kids

China’s prefectural Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs has issued an “urgent public notice” authorizing surveillance of fasting among their schoolchildren as a further step in its crackdown on the Muslim minority, Foreign Policy revealed in an article published yesterday.

The text also mentioned that children are restricted from participating in religious retreats and activities, and madrasas are no longer allowed to organize them.

According to the article, Han teachers are being brought to madrasas as a way to secularize the Islamic curriculum, which both students and teachers say places madrasas under careful watch.
