Philippines develops halal tourism in Boracay Island to attract Muslim visitors
The Philippines is enhancing its tourism offerings in Boracay by developing halal-friendly options to attract more Muslim tourists, the Arab News reported.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco announced that the Department of Tourism is collaborating with local government units to expand access to halal products and services on the island, known for its white sand beaches and coral reefs.
The Philippines, where Muslims constitute about 10% of the nearly 120 million population, has seen a rise in international visitors, including a 10% increase in tourists from Gulf countries.
The country was recognized as the Emerging Muslim-friendly Destination of the Year in 2023 and aims to further tap into the billion-dollar halal tourism industry.
