South Sudan Expands Educational Curriculum to Include Arabic, Islamic Studies

The South Sudanese government has introduced Arabic language and Islamic Religious Education into the country’s national education system, a local media reported yesterday.

Speaking at the launch of new textbooks in Juba, Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol described this as a remarkable step towards a more inclusive education.

The incorporation of these subjects is aimed at addressing historical gaps and embracing the cultural diversity enshrined in the constitution.

Education experts have emphasized the importance of an inclusive curriculum that fosters societal cohesion. This development aligns with South Sudan’s Interim Constitution, which designates both English and Arabic as official languages.
