Iran: Flash Floods Hit Mashhad, Killing 5
Severe flash floods struck the holy city of Mashhad in the Northeast of Iran today, killing at least 5, while 12 others are reported missing in Khorasan Razavi Province, IRNA and Mehr News Agency reported.
Within one hour of rainfall in Mashhad, 38 millimeters of rain was recorded, and the volume of flooding and waterlogging in some areas has been significant, said Seyed Reza Abbasi Neyshabouri, head of the Crisis Management Department of Khorasan Razavi Province in an interview with reporters.
Streets were flooded and vehicles were stuck in floodwater as rescue operations are underway.
It should be mentioned that the city is gearing up for the blessed birthday of Imam al-Ridha, peace be upon him, next week.
