Death toll from Afghanistan’s heavy rain, flash flood rises to 300
Heavy monsoon rains have ravaged northern and northwestern Afghanistan, with the UN Food Program reporting at least 300 confirmed fatalities, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The flash floods have destroyed over 1,000 homes in the Baghlan province alone, according to the UN.
“This has been one of many floods over the last few weeks, due to unusually heavy rainfall,” the UN Food Program stated.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the floods have impacted four provinces, destroying 2,500 to 3,000 houses and killing hundreds of livestock, while also damaging critical infrastructure.
Rescue teams have been deployed to provide aid and transport the injured to hospitals, the source mentioned.
The Taliban administration has appealed for public assistance in supporting the victims of these devastating floods.
