Indian Shiites stage demonstration in Lucknow to demand reconstruction of demolished Baqi cemetery

A massive demonstration was organized today in Lucknow, India, to protest the heinous systematic destruction of “Jannat ul-Baqi”, along with many other Islamic sites, by Sunni Wahhabis in 1925.

The rally takes place every year in commemoration of the 8th of Shawwal, the International Day of Baqi, attended by religious scholars and thousands of Shia of Ahl ul-Bayt, peace be upon them, across India, as well as other cities in Pakistan, Iran, and other Shia-populated areas.

According to Reza Ya’sub Abbas, a prominent religious activist and organizer of the event, a petition was submitted to the mayor of Lucknow to express the community’s urgent demand for reconstruction of the holy cemetery and push for effective measures by the Saudi Government.
