Vandals attack Rutgers University Center for Islamic Life during Eid al-Fitr
The Center for Islamic Life at Rutgers University in New Brunswick was vandalized during Eid al-Fitr, the Islamic religious celebration marking the end of Holy Ramadan, CNN reported.
Atiyah Aftab, chairwoman of the university’s Center for Islamic Life, condemned the act as fueled by Islamophobia, the source added.
Rutgers University President Jonathan Holloway called it a criminal act of bias and hatred.
The incident is being investigated as a burglary, criminal mischief, and bias crime by the Rutgers University Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Matthew Platkin expressed their disgust and stated their collaboration with law enforcement in response to the incident.
