As the sun set over Canberra on Saturday night, Civic Square filled with the smell of food prepared for the city’s Muslims to break their fast.

Among the capital’s Islamic faithful were members of other religions, who were invited to join in the post-dusk iftar meal Muslims eat every evening during Ramadan.

The special breaking of the fast on Saturday night was designed as a way for the wider public to meet the Islamic community and share the important religious event.
