National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) National Coordinator Ihsan Ghani said that effective implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) has registered a discernible downward trend in terrorism incidents, with 750 recorded in 2017 as compared to 2,060 attacks in 2010.
“A lot of blood, sweat, and tears have gone into this herculean effort,” he told APP exclusively on Sunday that NAP was being implemented with full commitment and vigour in coordination with all provinces, security agencies and other stakeholders, thus establishing the writ of the state throughout Pakistan.
He said that the effective implementation of NAP has also registered significant improvements in overall law and order and internal security situation in the country and added that national and international organizations have lauded efforts of Pakistan to rid itself of terrorism and extremism.
Similarly, the authorities concerned registered 424 cases and arrested 574 persons in Anti-Money Laundering. Around 207 Suspicious Transaction Reports were received from the Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) out of which 49 of them were converted into cases.
The authorities closed 48 STRs while 110 were under process. Ihsan Ghani said that these initiatives have helped in establishing stringent control for making money transfer system fully protected against misuse by terrorists and militant organizations.
It is worth mentioning that the numerous attacks in Pakistan had sectarian motives targeting the Shia community in many cities across the country.
