Holy Najaf prepares to host millions of pilgrims on blessed Eid al-Ghadir
The Imam Ali Holy Shrine has begun extensive discussions and preparations for the blessed Ghadir Pilgrimage, which marks the Great Eid of God and the renewal of allegiance to Imam Ali, peace be upon him.
The holy shrine said on its official website on Monday that officials are holding meetings to discuss plans and services of the million-person Ghadir Pilgrimage, an event when the Holy Prophet appointed Imam Ali (peace be upon them) as his successor.”
The statement indicated that “there will be various religious, cultural, and social activities to commemorate this blessed memory and to rejoice in the Eid of the loyal and loving followers on the blessed Ghadir day.”
It pointed out that “there is prior coordination with governmental and non-governmental entities, security and service departments, and various groups to ensure the organization and coordination of efforts.”
It is noteworthy that this year’s celebration will be on a large scale, following the Iraqi government’s decision to declare Eid al-Ghadir an official holiday in the country.
