German Interior Minister warns against arbitrary condemnation of Muslims following stabbing attack

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has warned against making arbitrary judgments against Muslims in the aftermath of the stabbing attack in Mannheim.

In her statements on Tuesday in Berlin, Faeser emphasized the importance of distinguishing between Muslims and extremist Islamists, stressing the need to firmly combat extremists.

Faeser said, “We will not allow extremists and terrorists to divide us. We differentiate between Muslims who belong to us and Islamists whom we fight with all severity,” pointing out pointed that the case is being investigated by the German Attorney General based on clear indications of an extremist motive.

Faeser also confirmed that security authorities are closely monitoring extremist circles and intensifying efforts to combat them, emphasizing that anyone glorifying these acts online will face prosecution.

The attack occurred last Friday when a 25-year-old Afghan man stabbed six men, including a police officer, during an anti-Islam demonstration at “Marktplatz” square in Mannheim.
