OIC condemns anti-Islam statements by Argentine President

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the statements made by Argentine President Javier Milei on various occasions, which “associate terrorism with Islam.”

In a recent statement, the organization said: “The Secretariat-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has been monitoring with concern and discontent the repeated statements made by Argentine President Javier Milei, on various occasions, which insult Islam, Muslims, and the ancient Islamic civilization, by using hostile terms such as ‘Islamic terrorism’ and ‘Islamic extremism,’ and by associating terrorism with Islam.”

The statement added that “the Organization strongly condemns such statements by the president of a country that has traditional relations of friendship and cooperation with the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and shared economic interests. These statements are inconsistent with the respect and mutual understanding that characterize the relations between the Argentine people and Islamic peoples.”

The organization reiterated its rejection of all forms of terrorism and of associating terrorism with Islam or any religion, highlighting the need for promoting dialogue among religions, civilizations, and cultures.

It also called for the implementation of relevant United Nations General Assembly and Human Rights Council resolutions on defamation of religions, particularly the General Assembly resolution adopted on March 15, 2022, which declared March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.”
