Holy Shrine of Sayyeda Zainab sees expansion due to record number of pilgrims

The Holy Shrine of Sayyeda Zainab, peace be upon her, in Damascus, Syria is being expanded to accommodate the increasing numbers of pilgrims during annual pilgrimages of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.

Engineer Ahmed Taher, the supervisor of the expansion project revealed that an area of 2,000 square meters is being added to the northern part of the sacred site.

Taher clarified that the new expansion project consists of two sections: the first covering an area of 1,600 square meters, and the second, known as the glass section, covering an area of 400 square meters.

Taher emphasized that the marble used in the expansion was of rare quality, with engravings reflecting the oppression faced by the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, and the messages Sayyeda Zainab, peace be upon her, sought to convey in Sham. The finest types of marble were used to clad and cover the columns, adding an aesthetic that befits the sanctity of the place.
