The daily scholarly meeting of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadegh al-Hosseini al-Shirazi was held on Sunday, the 13th of Rabi’ul-Thani. In this session, like the previous meetings, the Marja answered the questions of the attendees about various jurisprudential issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi discussed the prayer and fasting conditions of those who live in another city for study or work for a while, and said: Based on all Quranic verses and hadiths, it can be concluded that a person who is a traveler has to perform a shortened prayer and break his fast. A person who resides in their homeland or a place that they chose as new settlement (Watan), should follow the ruling of performing complete prayer, and fasting is obligatory on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Citing the verse 185 of Surah Al-Baqarah (the month of Ramadan is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed for the guidance of mankind and for distinguishing right from wrong, When one enters this month, they must engage in fasting, If one is on a journey or is ill, they must fast in other months, God has made the ruling easy for you and has not made the task difficult), his Eminence said: What should be established for prayer to be shortened and the task of fasting to be lifted is the state of traveling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized: If it is not established that a person is in traveling state, like those who have gone to another city for several years to study or work, then this person should not follow the ruling of a traveler, and therefore, such a person must perform complete prayers and must fast. So being in one\u2019s homeland does not change the ruling. It is enough to establish that a person is not in a traveling state, and establishing the state of being in one\u2019s homeland is not necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
