The operation of demolition was launched based on directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), a statutory body to deal with the cases related to environmental issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Legally, however, the move has been justified on the grounds of unauthorised construction – the police claim they are targeting illegal encroachments of people squatting on public land. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
