According to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Grande said in a statement, “Yemen is exposed to torrents that only happen once per generation, and have affected more than one hundred thousand people throughout the country since the mid-April.”<\/p>\n
She emphasized that the conditions have become very difficult for thousands of families who were already displaced and who have now lost shelter, food rations and household items.<\/p>\n
The statement pointed out that the provinces of Aden, Abyan, Lahj and Marib are the most affected, as the torrents damaged roads, bridges and the electricity network and caused contamination of water networks, and cut off thousands of people the ability to access basic services.<\/p>\n
“None of us really knows how much suffering the Yemeni people can endure. The solution is clear, and the parties to the conflict need the courage to stop the fighting and start negotiating,” Grande added.<\/p>\n
