\u201cThe efforts of local communities and the scale up of humanitarian assistance prevented famine thresholds from being surpassed in 2022, but millions of lives remain on the line,\u201d said Adam Abdelmoula, UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia. The drought, which is also affecting parts of Kenya and Ethiopia, is the worst in four decades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Horn of Africa has become hotter and drier due to climate change, and at least 36.4 million people across the region need emergency assistance to survive, according to the UN\u2019s humanitarian affairs agency, OCHA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
