A total of 300 people, most of them children, have been infected with whooping cough in Zabul province, in southern Afghanistan, and two children have died from the disease, according to Abdul Hakim Hakimi, director of public health in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his statements to news agencies, Hakimi said, “The disease, which is spreading in the Souri district of the state, has infected no less than 300 people, most of whom are children, while two children lost their lives during the past week.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stressed that an emergency team of health officials has been sent to the area to treat those infected with the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the state’s public health office has asked people not to leave their homes for several days to avoid the spread of the highly contagious disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
