The British Museum has reportedly apologized to a Muslim family who visited the museum after a member of staff allegedly called their six-year-old daughter a \u2018security risk\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The child’s mother complained to the museum after the staff member \u2018racially profiled\u2019 them by singling out her daughter after she posed for a photograph at a set of doors during their visit on June 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She described the staff member as \u2018aggressive\u2019 as they repeatedly questioned the family, asking \u201cwhy are you photographing the door?\u201d This was despite other families also taking pictures at the same doors, which did not violate any of the museum’s rules, an Islamophobia monitoring group has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The family were attempting to take pictures near an entrance foregrounded by two lion statues and a bust of King Edward VII at the time of the incident. The family said they felt targeted because of their ethnicity and religious clothing, TellMama reported.

In an email, the British Museum reportedly told the family they were ‘sorry’ that such an interaction with a member had caused them ‘such distress’ and that they hoped the experience will not dissuade them from visiting again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
