{"id":85903,"date":"2022-09-19T15:15:13","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T15:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/?p=85903"},"modified":"2022-09-19T15:15:34","modified_gmt":"2022-09-19T15:15:34","slug":"86-of-anti-muslim-content-comes-from-india-us-and-uk-twitter-accounts-a-study-finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/india\/85903-86-of-anti-muslim-content-comes-from-india-us-and-uk-twitter-accounts-a-study-finds\/","title":{"rendered":"86% of anti-Muslim content comes from India, US and UK Twitter accounts, a study finds"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Twitter has grown to be a major hub for the spread of anti-Muslim propaganda which has a disastrous impact on the Muslim minority communities around the world, according to a&nbsp;report&nbsp;prepared by the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As per the study published by Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) Headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, social media users from India, the United States and the United Kingdom generated 86 percent of malicious content between <a href=\"tel:201719\">2017-19<\/a>; online hateful content led to physical attacks on Muslims and mosques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, the United Nations strongly encouraged the international community to \u201ctake all necessary measures\u201d to combat discrimination against Muslims and \u201cprohibit any advocacy of religious hatred that constitutes incitement to violence\u201d while warning that anti-Muslim hatred has reached \u201cepidemic proportions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report said social media companies have not paid any heed to such grave issues despite repeated hateful events witnessed in different parts of the countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ICV study has found nearly four million anti-Muslim posts made during a 24-month period between 2017 and 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ICV also flagged a vicious cycle of hatred manifesting in both online and offline attacks on the community globally. Indian users alone generated more than half of these hateful and hurtful posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among India-based Twitter users, researchers blame India\u2019s ruling party \u2013 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) \u2013 for the dissemination and amplification of anti-Muslim hate, saying, \u201c(the) BJP has actively normalized hatred towards Muslims such that 55.12 percent of anti-Muslim hatred tweets now originate in India.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Twitter has grown to be a major hub for the spread of anti-Muslim propaganda which has a disastrous impact on the Muslim minority communities around the world, according to a&nbsp;report&nbsp;prepared by the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV).
