\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Muslim community in the US state of Kentucky will get together for the first-ever \u201cMuslim Day\u201d on Jan. 22, 2020 at the state capital Frankfort, where they will visit the building, get together with legislators and pray in the Rotunda.<\/p>\n They will also receive education to express themselves as Muslims in order to shed light on the misinterpretations shrouding the Islamic faith, as well as learn how to advocate on issues affecting the Muslim community.<\/p>\n Waheeda Muhammad, chair of the Kentucky chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations, said that the event will encourage Muslims to engage in politics and run for office. Some visitors even plan to advocate to pass stronger anti-bullying laws.<\/p>\n \u201cOne thing that really helps is for people to know a Muslim one-on-one, and that\u2019s part of encouraging Muslims to get out, to be involved in society, because if people know you personally, that\u2019s their image of Islam,\u201d Muhammad told WKU Public Radio.<\/p>\n Muhammad highlighted that Muslim Day in Frankfort is not state-sanctioned and that no taxpayer funds are being used.
