{"id":83114,"date":"2022-05-21T14:30:19","date_gmt":"2022-05-21T14:30:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/?p=83114"},"modified":"2022-05-21T14:31:06","modified_gmt":"2022-05-21T14:31:06","slug":"moroccan-british-man-elected-westminster-citys-first-muslim-lord-mayor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/news\/world\/europe\/83114-moroccan-british-man-elected-westminster-citys-first-muslim-lord-mayor\/","title":{"rendered":"Moroccan-British Man Elected Westminster City\u2019s First Muslim Lord Mayor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The 22-year-old Moroccan-British Hamza Taouzzale was elected as the Lord Mayor of Westminster city, making him the youngest person and first Muslim serving in the position.<br>Born and raised in Westminster, Taouzzale is the \u201cthe only incumbent from a Black, Asian or Multiple Ethnic background to hold the post as the City\u2019s first citizen,\u201d Westminster City Council said on Thursday in a press release.<br>He was nominated for the role on May 8 by the city council.<br>In 2018, Taouzzale was selected as the youngest-ever member of the Westminster city council. He then joined the Labor party and served at Queen\u2019s Park ward.<br>\u201cThis is a real honor and a privilege and a total surprise,\u201d the young council member said upon hearing the news.
