{"id":7990,"date":"2019-08-24T14:15:58","date_gmt":"2019-08-24T14:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/news\/world\/7990-europe-s-largest-mosque-launched-in-chechnya\/"},"modified":"2019-08-24T14:15:58","modified_gmt":"2019-08-24T14:15:58","slug":"europe-s-largest-mosque-launched-in-chechnya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/news\/world\/7990-europe-s-largest-mosque-launched-in-chechnya\/","title":{"rendered":"Europe\u2019s Largest Mosque Launched in Chechnya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities in the Russian region of Chechnya on Friday inaugurated the largest mosque in Europe in a ceremony attended by local and foreign officials.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Authorities in the Russian region of Chechnya on Friday inaugurated the largest mosque in Europe in a ceremony attended by local and foreign officials.<\/p>\n<p>With an area of 9,700 square meters, the marble-decorated mosque has capacity for more than 20,000 people and has been described by the Chechen authorities as the &#8220;largest and most beautiful&#8221; mosque in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said the mosque \u2014 located in Shali, a town of 54,000 just outside the regional capital Grozny \u2014 was &#8220;unique in its design, and majestic in its size and beauty&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The mosque&#8217;s grounds, planted with flowers and sprinkled with fountains, can host an additional 70,000 worshippers, local authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, Kadyrov unveiled the &#8220;Heart of Chechnya&#8221;, a mosque with a capacity of 10,000 worshippers in Grozny, a city that had been ravaged by two wars between Moscow and separatists after the 1991 break-up of the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities in the Russian region of Chechnya on Friday inaugurated the largest mosque in Europe in a ceremony attended by local and foreign officials. \u00a0 \u00a0 Authorities in the Russian region of Chechnya on Friday inaugurated the largest mosque in Europe in a ceremony attended by local and foreign officials.
