The Afghan forces announced today that 35 Taliban terrorists were killed in an army raid in the eastern province of Nangarhar, while the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, said that the international organization is making plans to confront the possibility of an increase in violence in Afghanistan when US forces withdraw.
Afghan press sources quoted the governor of Nangarhar province, Zia-ul-Haq Amrkhil, that 35 Taliban militants – including two leaders of the movement – were killed in an air raid carried out by Afghan forces.
The Afghan Ministry of Defense published a video of the raid on its Twitter page, and explained that the raid, which was carried out in the Bashir Agam area, destroyed a hideout for militants and a quantity of weapons. The Taliban did not comment on what was reported by the ministry.
These developments come at a time of escalating battles between Afghan forces and the Taliban, after the movement’s control of dozens of areas in the north and west of the country in the past three weeks.
On the other hand, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said in an interview with Agence France-Presse that the international organization is developing plans to confront the possibility of a rise in violence in Afghanistan when the withdrawal of US forces from the country is completed on September 11.
Grandi expressed his understanding that international military operations such as those that took place in Afghanistan cannot continue indefinitely.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
